2026 Is the Year for Simpler, More Human Marketing
2025 was a tough year, especially for small businesses and nonprofits. There were real challenges, shifting audiences, and strategies that stopped working the way they used to.
And beyond the usual business ups and downs, 2025 was heavy. It was a lot to hold, and we can’t pretend that outside factors don’t impact how we show up in our businesses — because they absolutely do. As we head into 2026, with so many ongoing atrocities still happening, it’s no wonder so many entrepreneurs I talk to feel frozen or unsure of what the next move is.
That’s why I believe simpler, more human marketing matters now more than ever.
Not the performative kind. Not the “do more, be everywhere” kind. I’m talking about thoughtful, grounded marketing that makes space for nuance. Marketing that connects, not just promotes. Marketing that supports your work instead of draining you.
Because let’s be real. None of us have the time or energy to chase every trend, show up on every platform, or pretend we’re content machines. And your audience? They’re tired too. In a world of doomscrolling, constant breaking news, and nonstop noise, they’re tuning most of it out.
It’s time to meet them where they are. More importantly, it’s time to stop wasting energy trying to be everywhere at once.
Here’s how I’m encouraging my clients to shift their approach this year:
1. Get specific.
Your brand isn’t for everyone, so stop pretending that it is. If you’ve been trying to be on every social platform and show up everywhere, consider this your permission to stop. You only need to show up where your people actually are.
2. Know your baseline.
What do you actually have time for on your busiest week? That’s your starting point, not what some Instagram coach told you to do. You don’t have to post daily to be effective. Maybe once a week is doable. Maybe it’s a newsletter instead of social. Start with your reality. You can always add more on your lighter weeks, but consistency starts with something sustainable.
3. Do what lights you up.
If social feels soul-sucking, maybe focus on email instead. If writing a blog sounds like torture, could you record a video or voice note? Find what works for you, because if you hate it, you’re not going to stick with it. And that disconnect? Your audience can feel it.
When your marketing is simple, attainable, and built around what energizes you, it shows. Your content feels like connection, not noise. It becomes more human. And in this season, that matters more than ever.
In summary:
You don’t have to post daily.
You don’t have to chase trends.
You don’t need a complicated strategy.
You just need something that fits your life and sounds like you.
