Staying Discoverable: Turning a First Lull Into a Marketing System
A solopreneur special education advocate with a steady, referral-built practice wanted a plan before her first slow season became a pattern.
THE PROBLEM
After five-plus years building her practice almost entirely through word of mouth, a solo special education advocate hit her first real lull. She was also noticing more advocates entering the space locally and wanted to protect the presence she'd already built.
Her marketing up to that point had no formal system behind it — Instagram posts, networking in local parent groups, and flyers mailed to clinicians, done without a clear strategy tying it together. And despite a strong reputation built over years, her search visibility didn't reflect it.
THE APPROACH
Full marketing audit & message clarity: Reviewed her existing platforms and positioning, then slightly refined her messaging to speak more directly to the parents she serves — and to position her clearly as an educator and leader in the special education space, not just a service provider.
Off-season client communication systems: Built simple, automated systems to check in with past and current clients during natural lulls in the school calendar, so she stayed top-of-mind without adding manual work to her plate.
A sustainable content strategy: Developed a realistic content rhythm across her blog, email list, and social platforms. This was designed to be maintainable long-term, not a burst of activity that fizzles out. The goal was consistency, not volume.
Foundational SEO & keyword updates: Made basic on-page SEO and keyword improvements to her website so that parents actively searching for help could actually find her.
THE GOAL
She wasn't looking for a full rebrand or a big leap into marketing she didn't have time for. What she wanted, in her words, was a clear shared understanding of her goals and the steps necessary to achieve them. She also wanted to know how to spend her limited time and resources efficiently instead of continuing to wing it. Specifically, she wanted to increase her billable hours with new and existing clients, and become discoverable to parents searching for help online.
THE RESULTS
45% INCREASE IN WEBSITE TRAFFIC
1,000+ Website sessions from organic search over a 6-month period.
WEBSITE TRAFFIC FROM SOCIAL CONTENT
224 Website visits from social media content (one month) — a new, measurable channel that didn't exist for her before
CONTENT
A consistent content plan easy for her to execute each month, establishing trust with her clients and potential clients.
THE RESULTS CONTINUED
A busier, more consistent school year: Six months after the initial engagement, she reported a noticeably busier and more consistent school year.
Search visibility started doing real work: Following the SEO and keyword updates, she saw an increase in leads coming from Google.
Content stopped being a "someday" project: With the systems in place, she consistently published across her blog, email, and social platforms throughout the school year — something she hadn't always been able to sustain on her own previously.
Social media is showing up, even without new leads from it directly: Direct traffic and Google remained her two biggest traffic sources by far, which is consistent with a referral- and search-driven business. But social media came in as her third-largest traffic source. She hasn't seen new client leads originate from social media directly, but it's a real, measurable sign that people are engaging with her presence there, and a channel worth continuing to stay consistent on.
